This Is Temporary—Gratitude Is Eternal: Keeping the Spirit of Creativity and Passion Alive in a Changing World.

The only thing you can count on in life is change. We’ve all heard that, right? Well, working in the West Loop is a testament to this quality in life. A cab driver recently exclaimed about the West Loop, “This is an obstacle course! You never know which streets you can go through. Everything is under construction!”

The explosive change has been SO interesting. We see pop-up coffee shops, old meat packing buildings gone, but their storefront retained for the music venue soon to arrive. What will the developers retain and what will they demolish? McDonalds and Anthropologie are coming, along with about 20 new restaurants!

But nothing surpasses the artist that paints the detailed, passionate mural, KNOWING it will soon be knocked down to make way for a new building. This astounds me, and yet, she deserves an applause. It is the act of doing rather than the permanent end result.

This was temporary―our gratitude is still immeasurable. We are thankful for all of the art going up and coming down, and most of all for the spirit of creativity that infuses our day. Thank you to Lauren Asten and Shapack Partners for commissioning the painting.
